Gilpin &Whitehouse billhook

I have for sale this Gilpin & Whitehouse of Cannock billhook. Not seen these two names on a hook together before.
It needs a sharpening and there are signs of pitting but it is very solid.

There were several firms in Cannock - William Whitehouse & Sons, Whitehouse Brothers, Gilpin and Whitehouse and W Gilpin - guess they were all interrelated at some time - all four made billhooks... The one shown looks like a thick nose Pontypool pattern (identical to the military billhook, but lacking the date stamp and broad arrow) - if it is the handle should be caulked (not round)... see www.billhooks.co.uk (search site for military)...
