Geminids heads up!

The peak of the annual Geminids meteor shower is tonight and tomorrow morning.
Weather permitting it's always a good show with a new moon and Gemini almost directly over head.

I was out with some friends in an estate near Dunbar this weekend, and on Friday when the sky was clear we had a good view of the shower, we counted about 30 shooting stars between four of us. I saw one going at a mad angle right down between two of the stars on Orion's belt.

I knew a shower was due but I couldn't remember which one it was, thanks for that.

I thought it rained all the time in Wales?

I went out at around midnight - there was a very fine cloud cover, quite eerie really as you could still see some of the very brightest stars - Betelgeuse was the only visible star in Orion - no more meteors visible.

This site is well worth a look for images of wonderment in the night sky - some really stunning stuff.
