You'll not going to believe this, I can't myself because I've obviously been a bit stupid but it raises the question 'where do you store your gear'

Mine is in 'really useful boxes' in the garage, but that's not very unbelievable. What is is that I was clearing out the bottom of the wardrobe back in march. Knowing myself well, I stuck the whole lot on the bed. This means that you can't give up and go to sleep till the job is done.

Unfortunately one of the bags contained among other things two or three pots of that hotel quantity milk cartons. Crushed rather than shaken or stirred. Said milk leaked through the bags and onto the bed (which was devoid of sheets) and filled the room with a fragrant odor which was pretty awful. I wrapped the bag in plastic bag and put it by the bin to be sorted as there was some useful gear in it.

Of course what actually happened was that I ended up cleaning the bed and forgetting about said gear and milk carton and it got tided away by either myself of the missus into the corner of the room.

Just now, whilst looking for my log book so I can sell my car, I find my missing petzel torch, firesteel and cutlery in a blue bag with very, very furry milk (and stink).

Wondered why the room was smelling a bit funky - my wife had been blaming me and I'd been doing likewise :(

On the plus side, I don't need a new Petzel so that can come off the christmas list :D

Unlucky about the smell!! Nothing worse! How long till the smell was totally gone? bet it stuck around for a day or two? :lmao: for that sort o reason (smells getting out) I leave All my stuff in the garage in a very neat chest of drawers. Organised and seperated into things such as

-cutting tools
-fire tools
-winter camping (tent, poles, airbed, pump etc)
-summer camping (hammock, tarp, ropes and guy lines)
etc...

I think I may have a case of OCD on my hands ;)

All over the house :o

Bicarbonate of soda dissolved in hot water will wash out and neutralise the smell of sour milk or sick.

cheers,
Toddy

I keep everything other than my gas for my little stove in my wardrobe, in 2 bags. Other than my good old tend that sits in its bag next to them.

One is a 30L ready to go bag that I like to keep read to go (funny that). It's got everything I need for a night or two in the woods.

The second is my 120L bergan which is full of everything else, stoves to Army ration packs to thermals. I like to keep it all in there as it means I know where everything is and as I'm very limited for space means it's not all over the floor.

That wardrobe isn't for cloths though, I fitted some shelfs in the top half and its my storage for stuff I what kept out of sight, but have easy acess to.

I spilt a Maccy D's milk shake in the footwell of my car once, took weeks the honk out.

Most of my gear lives in some racking (old wardrobe inners) up in the loft plus other bits scattered around the house in boxes. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my gear though so it all gets dried out and put away properly, sometimes that can take a week though much to SWMBO's disapproval.

Same here, that's why I keep it at the office. I can hang and air sleeping bags and stuff and let it all dry. I've got a washing machine there too so I can clean it all and waterproof jackets without it ruining normal clothes. There's even a shower (although rubbish and cold), but it get's me clean before I go back and will be really useful for when I have an affair.

I had to have a huge clear out out for my gear a few years back, as my bit and bobs have by then filled 12 container boxes (the ones shops use).

I now have odds and ends in four large storage boxes. Boots and walking shoes in a wardrobe. Tents, sleeping bags, roll mats and chairs in a large cupboard. Clothes...all over the house lol. Knives and axes and pyro in my bedroom (safest place). Stoves and plates/mugs etc in two drawers of a chest of drawers. army kit and webbing fills one double bed (storage under). Lighting and lamps in the electric cupboard. Rucksacks and packs fill another bed storage and rations/food are in the kitchen larder.
