Well, my Original trousers arrived yesterday - having been ordered less than a week before, which, by most standards, is impressive.
I was able to take them out for a little try yesterday, too. The fabric is a good weight - solid without being stiff - polyester/cotton mix and I have to admit that I like the green colour that I chose - leafy but not too olive. It is important to follow the recommendations on the website for ordering a size above what you think you might need from the sizing chart as they are cut fairly snugly. The chart suggested I needed a size 50, so I ordered 52 and they seem to be an appropriate choice. Wearing them, I was impressed with their comfort and particularly with their leg length, as it can be very difficult to find things long enough.
The pockets seem pretty good, too. The hand pockets are much as you might expect, as are the rear pockets, which have flaps but no press studs or velcro to keep them shut. There are two, generously-sized thigh pockets with press stud closures which sit more on the front of the thigh than round to the side. I am sure there is a reason for this but, as yet, have not figured out what it is; at any rate, they didn't get in the way or feel awkward. The right thigh pocket seems to have some arrangement for storing/carrying a knife but I haven't tried it out yet. I have a sneaking feeling that my preferred knife will not fit the gap provided nor the little poppered strap thing inside but I could be wrong.
There are reinforcement patches at the ankle and a buckled strap for tightening the hem around your boots, should you need or want to; this strap is also removable. The fabric at the knees is doubled for the inclusion of knee pads and the knees are articulated, facilitating easier movement.
Although I didn't need to use them, it is good to see the inclusion of long, double-ended zip vents on the thighs. They will, I'm sure, be useful in warmer conditions or when I am more active.
In terms of fit and finish, they are not at the Fjallraven/Norrona/Klattermusen levels but then you are not paying those sort of prices. Thus far, I am impressed with them and think that they offer an alternative to what's currently available at a reasonable price point. Whether they prove durable is something for the future. I'll take them out with my dogs later on today and see how they - and I - fare.
