I was out yesterday and came across these whilst collecting Acorns.

Are they Acorns from the Valonia Oak?

Here are some English Oak next to the ones in question for comparison

and here are the leaves

Two questions. Firstly am I right? Secondly can the Acorns from the Valonia be used in the same way as English Oak Acorns when making coffee. They are quite a bit larger but all else looks the same.

As always thanks in advance, ATB....Stu

Don't know about Valonia Oak, but it could be a Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) judging from the acorns and leaves.

Hi Stu
from your pictures i would say it was Turkey Oak Quercus cerris .As to the use of the Acorns, i don't think they should be any different but i've no personal experience using them, can anyone else confirm this? Hope this is some help.Sean.

The book that I used to ID them only had small pictures and both the Turkey and Valonia looked quite simular, but the Valonia seemed to match better. After looking at the links provided by Jodie (thanks by the way) I have to say the that the Turkey Oak is a dead cert.

Thanks guys....ATB....Stu :)
