I just came across this article on the Beeb.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15305048

I don't recall seeing many plane trees outside of parks but it might be worth bearing in mind before tying a hammock or tarp up to one in future.

It seems like a lot of our trees are at risk from one or other disease over the last few years - elms, horse chestnuts, now this!

i live near the canel du midi in the south of france and they are planning on cutting down over 50,000, yes thousand, of them in the next few years replacing some with other types or descease resistant ones from the USA where the fungus came from during the second world war(wooden shell boxes etc). the root structure actually holds the banks of the canal up so i hope they dont get it wrong
