Frost

Now I know that a few of you have had a few frosts recently so here is a question.
Just been out to the shop and according to my outdoors thermometer the temp is 2.6oc now this is fairly close to the house so it will be a little colder but its quite frosty outside so what temp do we get the tell tale signs of frost?
I know there is a ground frost temp....it just seems pretty warm outside to have a frost. I guess moisture in the air has a factor....
Do love it nice and cold though.

Frost severity
There are several degrees of severity for frost with a slight frost 0°C to minus 3.5°C, a moderate frost from minus 3.5°C to minus 6.6°C, severe frost from minus 6.5°C to minus 11.5°C and a very severe frost below minus 11.5°C.

Wind speed does affect the severity of a frost, and although a strong wind can prevent a frost by slowing down the night time cooling, once the temperature has fallen below 0°C then a strong wind can make it very penetrating and damaging.

In most vauxhals of recent years there is an exterior thermometer reading . It will start to flash at -3 degres to inform you there could be ice on the road .

My peugeot does the same thing at about +3C, but then it also has an ESP button

Thanks but still a bit confused....whats the definition of frost?
Hmmmnn ok just thought it would have to be 0oc or lower to get frost...so either my thermometer was wrong or it got warmer or ground frost occcurs warmer than I thought.

I think it depends on how much moisture there is in the air and how cold the suffaces are which it settles on. If the air temperature is 3°c but a colder car bonnet is 0°c then a slight frost will form, if it`s colder then a heavier frost happens and so on.

I could be wrong but that`s how I understood it.
