I've gathered together all my knives this morning out of this collection I have 7 knives made by respectable knife makers to my specifications for bushcraft and hunting, all of them do their job admirably and I can't fault them in any way, so here's the question.
with so much to choose from why is my first choice my high carbon Frost Mora :bluThinki :bluThinki :dunno:

Because they are the best multi-purpose bushcraft knife available that doesn't cost a fortune.

Hi Emile
what did you use to black your blade? Was advised to soak a tissue in vinegar and wrap it round the blade overnight. Is this right? Looks good.

The blackening you see on the Mora is from normal use. This Mora is also on regular duty in the kitchen, so lots of vegetable contact. I did not soak this one in vinegar, but have done that with several other blades. I do that for a maximum of two hours, however. Vinegar is very aggresive stuff. This blade has gotten such a treatment:

This basically was a shiney blade with a wrapping of vinegar applied to it for a limited time. You would have to experiment with the time to get a really even result. The knife shown is an Eklund in UHB20C steel. Great knife.

Question. I just saw the frost mora going for 10.50 on Woodlore. IS there a cheaper dealer out there? Must be right... before Xmass rang up the one who sold them for, what was it, around 5 quid? But he had just raised the price so I made the mistake of hesitating... Anyway all links welcome: I will buy four of six so 2$ per knife is a big difference... Maybe we can even do a groep purchase?

On the subject of Frost knives, and sorry in advance for hijacking this topic, but I'm looking for my first 'proper' Bushcraft knife.
For many years I've used an Opinel 10 when hunting with the Air Rifle. I've always liked the Opinel folders due to their ease of use, but now I'm finding that the Opinel is a little weak for Bushcraft use and I'd prefer to use a fixed blade.
I have taken a good look at 'starter knives' on the internet (including evilbay) and the Frost knives tend to be highly rated, this one caught my eye, and it looks the same one as sold on the RM web site - Frost knife Is this a good knife to start out with?

Thanks in advance.

Yes I would go for the Frost. Basically because you cant go wrong. Not only is it a great starter knife. Itsa great knife for everyone. You can use it, test it and try to beat it. It probably wont break quickly but if it does its not the end of the world. I've seen an expert survival instructor with a basic Frost. He also had custom, more expensive one though!!

BTW looks like Im getting one from here. Good price, great bloke to deal with.

GUYS,

Forget evilbay, especially for a frosts mora.

Contact Andy, at www.outdoorcode.com

Aside of the fact he is probably as cheap as anyone on ebay, he is very helpful, a pleasure to deal with a well respected, and reccommended on theis site.

As well as the mora, he can pretty much help you out or advice on most 'bushcrafty' things.

Good luck, but beware of evilbay, eventhough I just got an Fallkniven F1 for £50 delivered, and a hammock and fly with tree huggers, for another £70.

I'm sure once you've dealt with Andy, you'll be up heretelling others to get in touch.

The clipper model feels a little small in my hands, my favorite is the kj Erickson mora hunter I got mine from

(pic of knife)
having said that I bet everyone has a favorite model.
I have had two clippers and I did notice that the bevels came more roughly ground than the other two models I have. (standard army and mora hunter) The mora hunter has slightly larger bevels(makes it easier to sharpen) and a slightly thicker blade too. It was also a bit difficult to remove from its sheath.
Just a few of my observations I suspect any of the models will do.
