Things didn't go quite to plan with this weekend's wildcamp but we made the most of it anyway with a day in the Forest instead.
An early walk with good weather, armed with an OS map the walk was underway.
I prefer the northern part of the New Forest simply because it's quieter, I think we saw 10 people the whole day in the woods. A walk through Islands Thorns Inclosure's old woodland was something out of Lord of the Rings. It's ancient old Oaks, part covered in moss swayed in a light breeze. We even got to see a few fallow deer, probably spooked by our conversation and clunking about!
We had to get past this cheeky pair on the way back to the car.
It was a gentle walk for 3 hours but still found ourselves gasping for some Ale! If you're in Fritham then it'd be rude to grab a pint from The Royal Oak.
I can highly recommend their homemade Pork Pie with real ale chutney.
Top grub, they also do a ploughmans which I'll give a go next time!
