Hey, that looks really good!
Why not do what I do and combine the two- fly fish in the sea....
It's so much more fun that bait bashing or plugging. Ok, it takes a while to find the fish, and you will get more blanks, but it's sooo worth it when it all comes together.. Dorset is the place to head. PM me if you want to know more.

Never tried that. Sounds fun though. I usually beach cast for flatties, bass and I've had a few conger off Budleigh Salterton Beach at night. I may give that a go during the summer. What's the target species for this method?

Generally, anything that you can cast to that feeds on baitfish, although mullet can be caught on weed flies, or maggot flies if they are feeding on weedmaggots as the tide rises. Generally bass are the target species, normally fished over broken rocky ground as the tide rises. Mackerel provide excellent sport on the fly, they'll give any trout a run for it's money! Mullet are perhaps the hardest fighting fish in the UK, but also the hardest to catch, but there are spots in Dorset where it is fairly easy to hook them. Landing them is another thing though... Best of all, Salt water fly fishing (or SWiFFing as we call it) is free! But the looks you get from the leadchuckers is priceless....

Dorset is just starting to wake up now, so I';m off down there this weekend for some fluff chucking. I'll PM you some good locations to start you off. Naturally we have to keep these fairly secret to stop the commercials moving in and taking all the bass, as they have done many times, so I can't type them up here.

Thanks for the links Spacemonkey. Ahhhh yes Mullet, that takes me back. Me and my partner in crime used to fish for Mullet in Exmouth docks. They were indeed *uggers to catch. very weary feeders. We did have some success though and we also used to fish for Eels in the docks to. It was a working docks then. Now it's a marina full of very expensive looking boats. good times

And just to prove it can be done, here's a couple of pics of my weekend flyfishing trip on the Dorset coast... a cracking 12lb bass from the shore...!

The next day I was fishing in a sheltered bay. I was wading out to waist depth when I decided to loose my balance and fall over in a most comical fashion, just to amuse the onlookers you understand, and as I slipped I scared the bejeesus out of a bass that was only a couple of metres away from me that must have been about 6-8lb! If only i had seen it before I wouldn't have decided to take a dunk and fill my waders and jacket....
