Four Planets

If you're out and about in the UK right now look to the west to see Jupiter and a very bright Venus and then look to the east to see a visibly red Mars. I've never seen four planets at once before.

Awesome in the true sense of the word.

Its 2012, Supposedly the year of the planetary allignment. If you could see the whole way around the earth you would see all the visible planets in line.

Did you notice them lined up with the moon too?

Yes I was hoping someone was going to question my counting skills and then I could tell them I'm including the planet I'm standing on. Foiled!!!

Yes HillBill they look fab all lined up neatly don't they? Very surreal, like it's all a big hoax and someone's making pinholes in the black fabric of the sky.

Yeah they are very noticeable. I don't think i have ever seen any of the 3 visible, so bright.

it's amazing isn't it, I used the google sky app for my android phone. I only realise Mars was visible when I was waving my phone about in bed last night! Will take a look tonight

I saw them the other night when it was a thin white moon with Venus & Jupiter in a line just behind it.

What amazed me is last year I was out the back with a small 10x30 hand telescope and was looking at Jupiter and I could see the 3 moons of it. Not seen that before and it was quite a nice moment to know that those little dots were in fact the moons.

I would love to get a bigger telescope but wouldn't be able to afford it at the moment.

The google sky map is an excellent bit of kit to have on your phone.

Yeh, one was behind. I had found a handy website that showed you the positions of the moons and what ones they were but I lost it when I left my last job as it was saved to the favourites.

So that's what I saw last night - suspected they weren't stars.

I remember seeing that Fiona, that was amazing.
