Ok, so the title is alliterative....

Its actually more golden than the picture.

The label says real fur....

Its undyed fur! golden with that brown flecks.

Not mink, not chincilla, not beaver! maybe rabbit but the guard hairs are long

are there foxes that colour?

That's a Coney fur jacket my dear :D
It's rabbit, very popular those were late 70's early 80's.
That colourway was called Blonde.

Very soft, very tactile, needs specialist cleaning or it smells foosty after a while.

cheers,
Mary

Hear ?, just had a thought :)
You know you wanted a down quilt, Tengu ? How about using that jacket and making yourself one of the rabbit fur blankets like those the indigenous North Americans made ?
Supposedly very warm :D

cheers,
M

Posh rabbits, eh?

No, I dont fancy one of those knitted blankets...I have heard they shed hair like billy O.

Still, not bad for 50p.

Bargain :D

I must admit I did wonder about those blankets; I just couldn't see how the hang it was possible to cut a skin into wee strips and not get lots of loose fur. On the other hand, folks swear by those reindeer skins for underblankets and they shed worse than a German Shephard in full moult

I had coney fur coats, hats and muffs when I was a little girl, and my first pair of courrans were made of rabbit too.
Very warm they were, and then my infant self sussed out that my new white furs looked awfully like Snowy next door. I refused to ever wear them again. (I think my Mother was actually relieved, they'd been a present from an Aunt who's only child was the most pristine little girl on the planet, while I thought that half an hour spent climbing inside and investigating the coal bunker a happy way to spend some time :D there were fossils to be found )

British Red's advice is good, hats and mitts :D maybe socks too

cheers,
M

Three or four I could probably get from one tour of the charity shops, I will have to have a sniff at one and see if it sets off my allergies.

I did stumble on a source of raindeer bags but its a little pricey

Still, interesting to see.

Seal skins are probably a little beyond my pocket, and requirements (although thats never stopped me before) but thanks for the thought.

Cheers!

it does look like mink, doesnt it?

Id be inclined to mke a hat or ruff.

nice as fur is, I think its a bit hot for our climate. (Toddys childhood winters excepted)

My grandmother's fur coat was that colour, but I thought it was Canadian red squirrel. Thinking on it now, I didn't know the Canadian's *had* red squirrel :dunno: It was a very long time ago, maybe it was fox ?

My childhood had snow so deep I couldn't see over the passageways the neighbours cut into the drifts. Imagine last Winter but with more snow and you wouldn't be far wrong. We usually get two or three like that in a row, and then the climate shifts about again and they're much milder for a few years.
Believe me, if they stayed cold we'd all brave Peta's wrath and break out the furs like the Queen does :)

The mink stole would make a good hood lining and the same for a pair of mitts.

cheers,
Toddy

p.s. Fishfish I'll ask around and find his latest email address for you.
