I fear a ban is coming. I have noticed a thread of negative catapult stories being put out by the BBC, one on there today. Kids being naughty with catapults and breaking windows etc is nothing new but now its on mainstream news. I've noticed that when the Govt want to ban something they lead with a series of BBC negative stories, e.g. crossbows.

There seems to be a persistent drive to ban and remove anything seen as a potential weapon, based more on prejudice than factual data. Never let the facts get in the way of a politician or newspaper. It's not just an anti-hunting thing, maybe its a fear of social unrest/collapse.

I do hope not. I've only just bought my first catapult and started practicing with it a couple of months ago. It's a fun little hobby every now and then. :)

Looking at the lot who seem to be in charge of our institutions these days I wouldn't be surprised if they do ban them though. :(

How can you ban something that is so easily made at Home?

Think of the catapults used by fishermen to lob fish food into a lake - how is the law going to determine what is allowed and not allowed?

I think this is a non-thing to worry about. If they can't ban Crossbows ( mainly for lots of the same reasons ) I can't see them rounding up all the people who have read too much Dennis the Menace.

As I said before, never let facts get in the way of a politician or newspaper. My understanding is that they intend to apply the age checks to our children not the adults.

There are any number of ways that catapults can be effectively taken off the market, or emasculated if they even care about fishing, unless its fly-fishing on landowner's estates. Types of ammo, strength of the bands, design and strength of the arms, arm rests. (Arm rest catapults are already banned in some of the EU after an attack on a politician making a speech).
They might also limit fisherman to using bait throwing sticks, until they realise the power and distance possible. Drovers used to use them with pebbles to keep cattle from straying off the route. And a throwing stick with a sling is just a minature trebuchet...

Kitchen knives will be banned first.

All food will need to be pureed in a safety food processor
80 years in the business and what have I got to show for it? Bad piles, bad digestion, and 100 different recipes for soup. Soup! I hate soup! Soup, soup, soup! It's me teeth, you see. No one takes you seriously when you've got no teeth. They say, 'Sit by the fire, granddad, and have some soup

The government pander to all the soppy gits.
If you catch a fish shoot a pigeon or ferret a rabbit in lot of people’s eyes your a cruel nutter.
For some reason it’s now appalling if you like to let a dog catch a rabbit. Banned in Scotland and sure to spread to wales and England in time. My grandfather would turn in his grave.

I'm just waiting for them to go for my knitting needles..nasty sharp pointy bits of metal. Could cause a nasty eye injury if the pointy end went into someone's eye.
As for using them in public, say sat at a cafe table, park bench, or on a bus , it could get me arrested, and time in clink. Ooh I'm terrified!

I think we should all take up knitting, and sit on park benches making scarves, hats, socks and mittens to protest.
