Nice post. There are lots of others that can bite. All of the bigger ones can bite. Even a money spider, Leptorhoptrum robustum, is capable of biting. Probably in excess of 30 UK species are capable of piercing human skin.
Key facts: Given the relative size of spiders to humans, the amount of venom injected is tiny, and so almost always has virtually no effect. Spider venom is intended for use on invertebrate prey, and is 10 times less effective against mammals like humans.
Put simply, UK spiders are more or less harmless.

Looks like a male (small abdomen, wide at the shoulders), probably one of the Tegenaria house spiders.
