I know most of us use fixed bladed knives (myself included) but I think it's fair to say most jobs could be accomplished equally well with a reasonable folder. The main problem with a folder being the comparritive lack of strength when comparred to a fixed blade, especially when trying to cut wood of more than say 1 inch in diameter.
To over come this though I've often thought a really usefull folding knife that would cover most normal needs for the outdoors person would be a nice single blade drop point knife with an additional saw blade as well. That way and larger cutting jobs could be handled with the saw.
I know Buck do a model and of course there's the SAK's but I was thinking about a nice (read traditional) looking knife.
I think a blade shape similar to a Spyderco would be good to make opening the main blade easier with the saw perhaps a similar shape to a larger style SAK.
The idea would be to keep the knife as thin as possible to minimise bulk, that's why I don't want an SAK with the redundant can opener etc.
What do people think?
Does anyone know of any manufacturers that produce such a tool or are there any custom makers that could it?
Cheers
Mark
