First Snow-Tracks of the Season

Hurrah, got out first bit of snow today, so off I went tracking stuff. Let's see what you can ID from these then....

I've not chosen the best so that it makes it slightly harder. I was literally seconds behind one of the critters and caught him up after about 500m. Found a kill site too.

Nice one Stu, they are spot on. That's impressive. C: does have a fox in there too, but it it is partial and well hidden.

It's at the very tip of the oak leaf in the centre. I never would have spotted it if there wasn't a clearer renard print just further on. It is obscured.

once you'd told me it was there i would've guessed that was where it was, but that one really would have been a guess. badgers have a way of moving that i find more distinctive than the shape of their tracks and IMO the fox track looks a little out of sync from the others

really chuffed to have got all these right, i've been awake for nigh on 40hours now too, so the old grey matter shouldn't really be doing that well.

I went for a look around on Saturday to see what was about.
Three different foxes - varied gaits and paw sizes.
Still a lot of young rabbits about (1/2 - 3/4 size) hopefully this cold will now slow them down on the breeding front.
Squirrel.
Badgers, including one that was on a mission to plough a whole field!
Pheasants and Roe deer.

Going out in the snow is like reading the morning newspaper.

Rabbit with a Fox on behind some time afterwards considering that the rabbit track has started filling in with snow again.

Squirrel for the second one.

Hey you are correct on the timings on the first track but one animal is not...bit of a trick really....something was tracking though

second...is quite a close up so you cant see what they/it were up to....

Was my family pet Whippet sniffing the rabit tracks...wich is odd as he has a rubbish sense of smell....he seems to hunt based on sight or sound (but is really good)....we dont go hunting, but he is always catching things in the garden....compare this to our old Beagle...she was always on the scent....but too slow to catch anything living

From what i can tell these are the front feet only....if that helps
