Clearing out the garage I came across a piece of 01 tool steel so thought I would have a bash at a knife.
I based it on the Woodlore style and used some Black Walnut for the scales and the fire steel handle. The pins are some 6mm brass rod I had and drilled out one for the lanyard.
I had some trouble hardening the steel as I used a Mapp gas torch and it took 3 attempts to make a file skid off the surface! Tempering was done in the way Sandy from Jacklore knives used to do, heat until a straw colour then quench.
I tried to do a Scandy grind freehand on a sander but it turned into a convex grind But I don't mind, it's sort of like my old Fallknivens that I sold. I'm having trouble getting it hair popping sharp so may need to take some more metal off the edge.
The ferro rod is a 13cm beast, and attaching it to the sheath was an afterthought, I think it's a little bit big
Im pleased with this first effort though there is much to improve on. Any tips for improving things welcomed.
