Spotted my first Hedgepig tonight. Watched it go into a bag of garden waste, and it looked like it was snaffling a baby mouse? Would they do that?

Yep, they are quite carnivorous really - reptiles, birds, insects and mammals. They are particularly keen on birds eggs as well. They're not quite the darlings we treat them as
Their teeth are for insects but they are fairly omnivorous, apparently eating limited plant material too.
They are so numerous now that they are causing great damage to the ecology. Ground nesting birds in particular.
In very sharp decline in most of the UK; in the order of 50% in twenty years. They are only really a nuisance to nesting birds in confined areas such as Uist in the Western Isles where they are trying to eradicate them (They're not native to the Islands).

Our trailcam managed to record a hedgehog yesterday. I thought we had some, but we never see them.

A Hedgepig or two were, I think, having an illegal rave in my garden last night. Some very strange noises emanating, more than the usual snuffles!
