I’ve been told it was birch or sycamore. A lot harder to carve than the basswood and this was the biggest item I’ve done by far. Decided to leave the scalloped look in the bowl as I like the facets. Want to darken it up a little so thinking of putting it in the oven. Has anyone tried this?. Suppose I could stain it but I would have to buy some.

Would you oil it tho? If so what do you use if you don’t mind me asking
Personally i dont oil any of my spoons these days, just prefer not to, but when i did, i used Pure Tung Oil as it's food safe, i have also used Walnut oil in the past but stopped as it turned white wood a horrible yellow colour, stay away from Olive & Veg oils though as they go rancid.

I use a mix of food safe mineral oil and beeswax - different ratios depending on what I'm oiling. I use it on everything from spoons, boards, cups, furniture, and bows. Everyone has their own preferred recipe, that's mine. :)
