First Attempt at this paracord stuff

Hello all,

I’ve seen a few people’s Para cord projects on this site and i have been inspired to have a go at it myself.
To start with I went with the monkey’s fist. I found a nice how to PDF on the interweb.

This was my very first attempt. I used some tin foil to create the ball part for it

Then my second attempt, which is slightly better, it needed to be tighter

So onto my third attempt before bed. I still think it needs to be tighter, will retry it tonight.

I might look at doing a lanyard, does anyone know how to join a lanyard to a monkey’s fist?

incredible start! thats a perfect monkeys fist. people often do a snake knot with the two strands; or add a doubled over strand so you get 4 strands to do a 4-strand round braid from there for the lanyard.

that's superb for a first attempt at a monkey fist, they are not easy knots to tie at all. i used to make "fire-poi" using wooden balls and lamp wick using a monkey fist knot and i tended to use a few push pins to hold it all together until it was finished and i could tighten it up, still not easy
