I have not been on any courses re the use of Fire Steels, but in experimenting with mine I have noticed that you get a far better spark if you draw the Knife blade across the steel at the same time as you push it down the steel, and the sharper the edge on the back of the blade, the better the sparks too. Just thought this may be of use to any new members or Firesteel users.
