I've been looking on the web today at fire pistons and fancy having a go at making one is there an ideal maximum inner diameter to the chamber?Also whats the ideal depth of the chamber?

In my experience, ignition can be achieved over a range of dimensions. Try 3/8" diameter and about 3 inches in depth.

A friend suggested that the compression ratio should be about 18:1
The pistons that I produce have a bore diameter of 6mm and a piston legth of 74mm.
