not all bushie stuff has to be pricey [i am picking up tips from you here]

today on a grocery trip i bought

in m+s a small hand sanitiser for £1
[my hands where covered in sap the other day and i needed my water to drink].

tescos pack of 3 x ronson lighters [piezo ignition] £2

tescos baby cotton wool pleat 80p

numark chemist micropore tape [i prefer to plasters] £1.35

i packed some cotton wool into a plastic bag for fire lighting and to use with the micropore tape for cuts.

wrapping some of the micropore tape around the small pencil later.

thanks to rancid badgers tip i already have a good fire steel [rm] i tried it on the cotton wool and it worked a treat.

looking for stuff thats light and dual use all the time

anyone else get any recent good stuff on a budget?

ps wasn't to impressed by the tescos camping gear prices though

Just to let you know, i picked up some hand sanitiser during the winter in ASDA and it was 2 in a pack for £1.
Don't know how big the one you got is but the bottles are 57ml, its called 'Safemate'. The best part about it is its flammable gel so works nice if i need to use it to get a fire going and it burns for about 5-10minutes and thats just a blobs worth. Holds up in the wind OK but not the best but will stay lit.

poundstrecher is where i get my gel from, a bottle like the one pictured above. and a pump bottle size like that's used in doctors etc for £1

You should try coating your cotton balls in Vaseline/petroleum jelly, gives them a much longer burn time and a better flame.

I seen a guy on youtube (think his name is 'colin outdoors' or something) and he coated cotton balls in candle wax and said he was using it to replace his usual fuel when using his crusader cup setup, he even boiled a cup of water with one ball! i was pretty impressed by it tho it did seem a bit annoying to get lit at first.

Yeah, thats the video! I think the wax keeps it burning, just like using a candle. I suppose the cotton wool in the wick. I think he has a problem getting it to light is because its almost fully covered in wax. Would be a smart idea to leave a small area not covered that will catch fire easy to get it going.
I was impressed that it was able to boil the whole cup tho! very cheap fuel right there.

nah i make wax cotton balls, you gotta hold the flame on the cotton wax ball for a bit there hard to light but burn long and hot ^^
