Finding a map number.

Sorted out some for my research from the Archives.

But like an idiot didnt take the map number.

I know the year, and the scale, and the area...not which map.

Anyway to find out?

Which Archives ? what kind of map (topographical, mineral, land use, that kind of thing) and where ?

Maps are produced in Series. If you can find one, you can find the adjacents.

Back of an OS map cover used to have the map numbers?

Yes, I should have looked at them; I was busy photocopying.

And they are not recent maps; oldest is 1900

The National Library of Scotland has a fine collection of old maps, and has a map finder, amongst other things.
