Have been using an old felling axe I restored a few years ago over the W/E and have now decided that it is time for a new one! as Its performance is not sparkly (When compared to my GB.SFA)

The axe will recieve occasional but heavy use,

Any recomendations?

Thanks for your help

I use a double bit working axe from GB

Lovely balance and everything you would expect from GB

For truly rough work, B&Q sell a fibre glass handled 3 1/2lb felling axe that is remarkeable value. I often take mine to meets etc. with my fibreglass handled maul as I am far less worried about someone overcutting with them when we are splitting secioned trunks

Great service, helpful chap on the phone and best prices I could find for Gransfors - I bought a small forest and I'm very impressed with it.

I have a fibreglass felling axe - bought for about £10 from Devizes tool market - most market towns have them and they are brilliant for things like this. It is quite hard to get a good bevel on them and they don't stay sharp for long, but for occasional use (like mine) it's fine - no need to spend a heap.

Not sure about this as I've never felled a tree, but what about one of the Swedish Army Axes from Ebay and fit a longer shaft? Any thoughts from more experienced users or other people who bought those axes? I'm not sure of the head weight, but know it's on the big side for the handle it comes with IMO.
