18000 feet, even the Crabs were nails back in the day. Got to be some decision to make that, do I jump from this high with no chute or stay in the plane that's going down.

18000 feet = 3 miles 720 yards.

I remember reading a book on surviving when I was a teenager which had this story in it. Cant for the life of me remember its name.

The book sound familiar, but was only printed in 2006, I'm thinking of a book back in the late 80's. Is it a reprint?
