If we examine a lot of these milkshake/egg/manure assaults there is no actual injury, rather there is insult, mockery and inconvenience caused to the victims, nothing more than a bruised ego.
I think it's about the potential for injury though. There was a case of a woman being blinded due to having an egg thrown at her in the street. So, albeit the chances are slim, it could end pretty badly, as it did for her.

Strange you have a weird need to insert something utterly irrelevant to the discussion in hand, but it is apparently a surprise to you that assault is assault so maybe that explains it.

You seem somewhat triggered.

Not sure why.

I don't think at any point I've been surprised that assault is assault. What surprises me is that how some call for immediate sentencing in some circumstances but not in other.

Farmers grow peoples food, cyclists just get on peoples nerves. The cyclist may not have deserved being sprayed for wild camping but wild camping is a hard sell when you're wearing spandex, Maybe he got sprayed just for being a cyclist.

When I was a nipper and we had our hillfarm we sometimes used to get people rocking up and asking to camp on our land, we used to let em in a field with no cattle or sheep in.
I'd pop over with a few (glass back then ) bottles of our water from our supply.
I remember one family had a nice old Alvis car and there were two German lads (Manfred and Olaf) who came a few times, they ended up staying in our caravan.

We never felt the need to be nasty to em.

Sadly, different times and different people :(

Both are in the wrong. Camper didn't have permission to be on the land and the farmer acted immaturely and unprofessionally.

I do sympathise with the farmers, they work long, hard hours and ask any landowner and they've likely dealt with trespass numerous times. It's only so many times it can happen before you act out through frustration and do things that would otherwise be irrational.

The only winner in all this is the newspaper that reported this and the social media platforms that benefit from the clicks and shares.
The cyclist loses-covered in manure
The farmer loses- potential prosecution
The UK loses by divisively setting farmers againgst wild campers and just breeding more hate politics. Where are the stories of farmers and campers working together for the common good? Normal is too boring, only the salacious hate stories get printed.
