Having just returned from a week in Bude, Cornwall I thought I'd post up a trip report.

This was our second big family camping trip and our first ever to cornwall. Having a week away I wanted to really make the most of the costal setting and get some good beach foraging and fishing in as well as the usual familu outings.

Weather wise we caught the tail of Bertha and the rain was hellish but the site was well drained and the gear held up. We also had some really lovely weather as can be seen.

Anyway on with some photos and captions.

Our accomodation for the week, Eskdale Trail 10 tunnel tent. Outer pitches first with toggle in bedrooms with sewn in groundsheet. Stood up well to wind and rain.

Some lovely beaches and rocky outcrops.

Giving my daughter and step son a taster to some wood work. Here using an axe to rough out some make shift rod rests. I ended up attracting some other "apprentices" in the form of some kids from other tents who wanted to have a go. I taught them how to make and carve a good natural catapult fork.

The fruits of some nice rock foraging woth the kids. We took just enough limpets and muscles to satisfy our sea food itch. They were boiled for 15 minutes until the muscles opened and the limpits de-shelled.

Devoured and very nice it was.

Finally got out for some sea fishing and the weather was spot on.

Daddy fishing and daughter enjoying me catching a lot of crabs on my sand eels.

Catch number 1 was a nice 2lb sea bass and the first sea fish my steo son has ver caught! We were fishing the incoming tide using sand eels as bait. For the tackle lovers and gear heads we caught this on a 6ft John Wilson spinning rod and reel set fitted with 20lb mono mainline. As for the rig I tied the leader into a 2oz lead with swivvel straight through to 2no. size 2 barbed hooks on a 12 inch hook length. I was going to take this for the pot but we have attracted somewhat of a crowd of adults and children and I couldn't bring myself to knock it in the head in front of the kids so back it went.

Catch number 2. This eel was caught on the same rig as the sea bass. It was a sliplery customer hence the newspaper helping me hold it. From speaking to other anglers they thought it may have been a small conga as a few have veen pulled out of the same spot recently.

One final one of my daughter keeping guard of the crabs we were catching. I was plagued with them on my main rod so by the time we finished we had accumulated quite a few.

All in all it was a very good trip and a lovely place. It has really rejuvenated my love for fishing and foraging even as much for me to now want to start sea fishing on a regular basis.
