Glad you are ok. That really isn't the recommended technique for waking up in the morning, even if it is effective.

I had a problem with a travel mug, and found out in the same way. Turns out water was getting inside the gap between the plastic outer and metal inner, while in the dishwasher, and adding a hot liquid caused a pressure build up.

For me it's usually a cup of coffee that sets off explosions elsewhere in the morning..

Just tell them its a problem and get a refund for whatever was damaged.
