Whilst celebrating last night , i managed to snap a tooth in half , its a back one .
The thing is i have a phobia of dentists .
Are there any bushcrafty remides for teeth ?
Cheers
Pumbaa

hi pumba
i hate dentists and left my teeth for ages, so long that my jaw bone became infected and is now week as the marrow on the right side rotted out. there is no remidy other than propper capping off. get to an emergancey dentist and get them to seal off the top with amalgum. it will b so much worse if you leave it. trust me i have sat in a corner grizling for long enough... dont think that will just frighten you. hope all goes well

No! not permanant ones anyway. You are gonna have to bite the bullet before the rot sets in get it sorted ASAP if you get an infection and an abcess forms you will learn all about pain! it happened to me years ago and the relief when the bloody thing came out cured me of my fear of denists. Good luck

Sorry to say this but just go and see a proper dentist cos an hour of fear is worth it.

When its all said and done dentists seem quite a lot better these days and stop when you say somethings hurting as opposed to the Belsen style tooth pullers of old.

Theres one lad at work who avoided dentists for years and now has severe bone problems and has to visit the dentist about every month to have another pulled out, at this rate he only has nine months worth of teeth left

He's getting sick of soup..

First post in the new year :D

As Bloodline said mate, you really should see a dentist.
IIRC I read somewhere that this way (not going to a dentist) might cause a blood poisoning - something you definitely do not want to have, or should not even risk by experimenting yourself (with a big chance to cause even more damage).

Be a big bloke and call the dentist and get it sorted.

I know it's easily said than done if you're not fond on dentists ... and me going to the dentist whistling because I never had any problems with my teeth what so ever (so my visits are only once a year - and within 5 minutes I'm outside again  ).

All the best with it mate and I hope you recover quickly!

Also have a great fear of dentists, but.. I agree with the others posting, it needs proper fixing. There may be short term pain relief remedies about and there are temporary diy fillings. Leaving it will only delay the inevitable and will probably cost more t
Let the dentist know you have a real phobia and ask them to take that into account. The vast majority are used to that, and will be sympathetic and suportive. I was very lucky in finding a dentist..good luck.

if you've just bust a bit off the tooth/filling then all may not be lost and it'll just need patching up. If it's totally knackered then it'll need to come out and the sooner its done the better.

Emergency dentistry:
1. get everything checked and fixed before you go.
2. get an emergency repair kit from a chemist (a certain place with an oval blue logo do one)
3. if something happens get it seen to as soon as possible

Holes - clean out the cavity as much as possible, pack with temporary filling material (roll up blob of material, place on finger, squidge into hole if you can - if not use a friend to help, bite down a few times and then be careful until it sets.

Crowns - try and glue back in ASAP to stop gunge getting into the hole. Always keep any crown you can't get back in cos the dentist usually can. Don't be temped to try..
Superglue - toxic and far too easy to stick everything together.
Araldite - even nastier than superglue and won't come out.
Evostick - contact adhesive, won't work and poisonous.
They have all been tried and the results are usually a bit of a talking point!

Broken dentures - if the bits fit back together then you can try superglue but if you get it wrong it won't fit. Check the glue has set before putting in mouth (sounds obvious but the results are unpleasant if you glue it in)

Broken teeth:
Small bit - patch up as a hole
Big bit (solid) - go see the dentist
Big bit (loose) - can try to remove very loose bits (This WILL hurt), see dentist ASAP, can get infected very easily.

Toothache (no swelling) - Simple painkillers (paracetamol, ibuprofen etc read and FOLLOW the instructions, don't get inventive), avoid things that make it worse, make an appointment.

Toothache (small swelling near tooth) - Painkillers, cold water near the tooth may help, don't place things like Asprin near to tooth - you'll just get a chemical burn in your cheek, see dentist ASAP. Needs tooth fixing.

Toothache (swelling in cheek/side of face) - See dentist TODAY, can spread and cause problems with breathing if swelling gets worse. May need antibiotics, definately needs tooth fixing/out

I usually have a small bottle of clove oil for emergency toothache. One drop on the end of a matchstick numbs the tooth for a few hours.

I think you should get it fixed but as I haven't let a dentist near me for nearly 40 years I can't blame you for being wary.

Will throw in a recommendation to see a dentist...
Mind you i'll also admit i hate them too... to the extent i tried bushcraft dentistry on myself after snapping a wisdom tooth down the centre, and yes i was doing the ever so manly thing of removing bottle tops with my teeth :banghead: by god it hurt when i did it, hurt more the day after (think seeing stars when ever anything moved in my mouth) still too scared i got out a pair of needle nosed pliers and removed it.. took about ten mins, a large volume of blood loss, and a few moments when things went a little woozy.. solved the pain, for a day or two till the gaping hole i left got infected.. still being a wimp i then tried to fix this by constantly digging out infected tissue/gunk and squirting hydrogen peroxide into the hole... this was accompanied by further blood pain and wobbly knees. Admittedly ive had no problems since but on close inspection (with the aid of the camera on my mobile) found as i should have guessed i've left the root in and no where near enough gum to cover the hole. So bullet was bitten and dentist nearly passed out when she saw it and went decidedly pale when i told her how it got to that state.
Now no more pain but a nice bill of about £1000..
In short get it sorted.. macho stuff causes more hassel! Mind you i did suture a cut myself once as i was a way from a hospital and couldnt stop it bleeding.. they kept my sutures in said they were fine if a little untidy!

After a series of bad dentists I ended up cursing the lot of them for 8 years, as a result my mouth turned into a right mess.

Then I was directed to a dentist who specialises with scaredy cats like me and its all looking a lot better. As well as taking things slowly and explaining everything they are doing they offer a few different treatments. The one i go for every time when it involves anything more than them having a look round is intravenous sedation.

Simply put its just like Rohypnol, I go in and get given an injection then later that day I wake up at home and my teeth are that bit more sorted. Don't remember a thing Of course you need to have someone come pick you up and take responsibility for your actions. I'm told I walked straight out whilst SWMBO was settling up, she found me in the middle of 4 lanes of central London directing Traffic :D

That way my teeth get sorted and I dont get to have any bad memories and stay relatively calm when I'm in the hot seat.
