Eating Alder catkins- any one tried it?

Hi, am trying to find out if it is possible to eat common Alder catkins? The link below is interesting but problem is it's American and with a different type of Alder. Has anyone tried it with our native common Alder (Alnus Glutinosa)??

yep, it's a wee green munchy

Someone was asking about these last year too and posted something about cooking them in a pot of water.

Tbh I suspect that they're a bit like acorns and elders.....every single tree tastes a wee bit different. Some are astringent, some sweeter, some so tanniny that they're a 'no'.

update: I like em! Picked a few at the weekend, by themselves a wee bit bitter but dried and then crumbled on cheese on toast they were really lovely and nutty. Like the slightly crunchy texture too.
