A while ago I aquired a Victorinox Swiss Army One Hand Trekker when they were selling them off from a US website for silly money. It has proved to be my all time favourite folder and almost costant companion but theres always been one thing wrong with it, the serrations on the main blade.
They are great for cutting cord, hacking open boxes but are useless for anything like neatly cutting paper or carving with.
So, having put it off for as long as I could I did the mod originally suggested to me and ground them off.
It only took about half an hour, I whipped the edge off (using copious amounts of coolant to keep the temper as is) with a bench grinder then locked it into a GATCO honing guide and put on a new bevel on the same side using progresively finer grits. I dug out a barbers strop and gave it at least 200 licks a side and its as sharp as I want it and will no doubt get more so as it gets used and resharpened.
This is just to say to other Luddites that it's suprisingly easy to remove serrations so don't be put off a Trekker because of them, it's a doddle to remove them.

Off to cut some rushes as I've finally got some mutton fat on the way to render into tallow! :-{D)
