A while ago I aquired a Victorinox Swiss Army One Hand Trekker when they were selling them off from a US website for silly money. It has proved to be my all time favourite folder and almost costant companion but theres always been one thing wrong with it, the serrations on the main blade.

They are great for cutting cord, hacking open boxes but are useless for anything like neatly cutting paper or carving with.

So, having put it off for as long as I could I did the mod originally suggested to me and ground them off.

It only took about half an hour, I whipped the edge off (using copious amounts of coolant to keep the temper as is) with a bench grinder then locked it into a GATCO honing guide and put on a new bevel on the same side using progresively finer grits. I dug out a barbers strop and gave it at least 200 licks a side and its as sharp as I want it and will no doubt get more so as it gets used and resharpened.

This is just to say to other Luddites that it's suprisingly easy to remove serrations so don't be put off a Trekker because of them, it's a doddle to remove them.

Off to cut some rushes as I've finally got some mutton fat on the way to render into tallow! :-{D)

Well, ah, yes thats the best option but at the time they were only selling off the serreted job for the equivilent of (I think) 12 quid a pop  and I'm a cheepskate!

I notice that the German army has used a a Trekker with green scales since 2003 and that the Swiss Army is following suit, with a suitably different green set of scales.

Actually thats the first non serrated one I've seen. Does someone in the UK sell them?

I"ve been using the non-serrated for a few months; I convexed the edge and its like a razor. Tim at Felinevet is a good dealer, he is over at the SOSAK forum on knifeforums.com

do these have a lock mech ??
ive been using a locking Rucksack since 92' (main spring broke in 2001 replaced FOC :D no fuss which was nice as the main blade was getting a bit thin)
love the larger blade and saw but fancy the one hander with out serrations

Yes, the blade has both a slipjoint lock and a liner lock. The liner also locks the large screwdriver/bottle opener on the opposite end.

I bought the non serrated one hand opening Trekker after seeing the new Swiss Army issue version. I like the non serrated blade better.
thereafter, I orderd a custom fit Forrester model with non serrated one hand opening blade. I much prefer this model bacuse I always fancy having a corkscrew on my knife.
