Who here tans the fur of any kills they make such as rabbits, fox, Deer Ect..

How do you go about it since seen so many ways I’m not sure where to start from brain tanning using salt brains and urine to some concoction using battery acid or the traditional dog crap?

There must be some sort of chemical I can just use after salting them?

I always do braintan, with some veg tan into the mix. If you are in for the easier options I would think alum would work well.

Salt makes furs permanently more prone to attracting moisture in my experience.

Some guys I met once, softened reindeer hides with used motor oil. Must smell pretty bad.

So far I have mine just sitting in a bucket of salt until I can work out a decent way of tanning them.
I heard that just smoking them works well but am yet to build a amoker to try it.
