dutch crusader style cup - cheap

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I was given a similar metal mug, not 100% it was dutch mind, but it does not fit the 58 pattern water bottle nor will it sit well on the old square / fold up hexi stove.

Are these important to you I would ask the seller!!

I too would question it's origin, if it's real it'll have markings stamped into the metal. eg the year and several seemingly ramdom numbers. If it's from Holland it will have a "KL"stamped on it.
I just did a search and found several companies selling this mug non of them showing stamped numbers (and 3 seperate surplus companies all using the same picture:confused: ) also they are calling it 44" too! (which it isn't:27: )

I've seen a couple in shops, and they are a round the same size as the US army metal mug(also which is not compatible with 58").

nor will it sit well on the old square / fold up hexi stove.

I used the US army version for years, You can technically use the Hexi cooker although with care;)
If you turn the cooker upside down and rest the cup on what was the legs, place the hexamine on the upturned burner area not so efficient but it can be done.

You an however use the much smaller German issue Esbit folding stove to better effect.

but what i used to do is use a Meths burner make a hole in the ground (about the size of a half tin of beans) place the burner in and use 2 metal tent pegs across the hole to cook on.

or you could re-shape one of these (US army issue cooker).

if you're wondering if it's possible I have re-shaped one to fit my crusader mug! (it's only aluminium!);)

Hi Rappleby2000
What I was wondering was if you know of a UK supplier of these - been looking for one for a while but with no success?
Cheers!
