Needing advice on how midge it is for camping down there. Any locals with advice ?

Will be climbing at Traprain Law and North Berwick so looking for a wild campspot. Hopefully midge free. Have a school, grp of 6, camp planned.

Hi, Sorry only just seen this i dont live to far south of Dunbar cant comment on Dunbar area exactly but when im out camping round St Abbs area i think about 15 miles south, ive not come across any Midges, ive also camped on Aberlady bay during the summer(spitting distance from North Berwick and havent come across any) and used to live inland in the borders and was never really bothered by them, defo alot worse on the west coast than east.

At low tide at Aberlady, you can still see the wrecks of two old ww2 X craft used for target practice after the war, and on your way in to the bay through the nature reserve and sand dunes theres still some of the old coastal defence concrete blocks, its a huge sandy beach with dunes at the back of it.

Nick,
I went there for a overnighter about 2 yrs ago and we had the whole bay to our selves on how many occassions this would happen i couldnt comment, but if your just going down for a day visit i think there'd be no problem. Its about a half hour walk in from the parking area to the bay, through the nature reserve(maybe thats to much time and energy for a ned to wait to open a tin)

Good. We would walk down then camp out. Then brekky and climb at Traprain.

Aberlady is a local nature reserve, slight issues.

In google earth, looks good to drive thru Muirfield and the carpark is right next to the beach.

Nick i was under the impression the estuary's and marsh area's at the back of the bay itself where the nature reserve? i could be wrong. Once at the bay itself theres probably very little risk apart for going to near the sea(tides etc) as its about a mile of sand(easliy)
though i did come back with a rather nasty blood shot eye, it was quite windy got sand in it etc etc, we scrapped out a very(4 inchs approx) scrape hole each, put in our matts and bags and slept there at the back edge of the bay where the sand dunes and grass is.
