I can believe that people can dowse but it's getting to the deeper science that I would like.
Me too.
Unfortunately, if current thinking is anything to go by then it is going to take far more funding and effort than most research establishments would be motivated to expend.

If I could be involved in a very naïve research project I might start with an accelerometer.

So you want me to believe something without evidence, but you refuse to believe something that does have evidence? That does pose rather a problem when it comes to having an honest debate.

I'm frankly not interested in what others believe or don't believe. I only know my personal experience and that of others I trust. I don't require scientific studies and media reports to form beliefs.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. My advice would be try it, and also to conduct your own study with carefully designed experiments, that way you'd be getting results absolutely free from any motives, incentives and backhanders.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting I'm refusing to believe in, some scientific studies you've linked to? Dr to my younger self: "Just make up some results which mostly support what you're trying to prove, it's an honour's project, nobody is going to question it!"

Now.

This it’s nothing Scientific. Just anecdote.

Half an hour ago I made a pair of dowsing rods and gave them to my two visiting granddaughters - 9 and 11. (Ed: plastic covered 12 guage fencing wire.)

I did not tell them what they were doing, just how to hold the rods.

They both walked about my garden and the rods crossed in several places
subsequently opening out before the next point where they crossed again.

One granddaughter walked over a flagged area and repeatedly found a well covered by the flags and which she didn’t know about.

Truth - yes.
Indication of the dowsing effect - yes.
Proof - no.
Diagnostic to any degree - possibly.
