I am thinking of making a down quilt. As light as possible.

I have an old parachute. Was just wondering if I made the quilt from this, could i stuff it with down? Or would the down penetrate it?

What are your thoughts?

Parachute nylon is often downproof. Its calendered on one or both sides and often silicone impregnated to reduce air passing through the weave.

Best way is to cut a test piece and sew or tape some down into it and see. All the brand new parachute nylon I've used so far would be suitable.

Don't expect anything to be featherproof though, and even the highest quality down has a small feather content that can't be removed and some will still poke through :)

So that's where the random down feathers come from on my Alpkit bag ! Cheers Pete ! :)
