I know there are lots of Landy owners out there.

I have an old 110 and I'm fed up with the rear door swinging back onto my legs when the wind takes it.

I've heard about using a gas strut to keep the back open which sounds like a good idea if it can positioned so it doesn't get in the way but can still exert enough force to stop the door moving.

I've tried the Land Rover hook over the sliding bar and my own modified version but they end up bent because it gets used by lots of people who forget it's there and try to force the door shut

I don't think you would be able to replace the hook and sliding bar with a gas strut directly as I think the angle would be wrong (too close to the hinge). Perhaps it would need to be at the top of the door so it wouldn't hinder loading etc.

Any one got one on their Landy or any thoughts?

Thanks

Mark

Our 109 Stage 1 did the same - and that has the spare wheel on the back! I messed about witht he idea of a gas strut but they are hellishly powerful and the mounts need to be darn good. I also messed about with metal hooks, blocks and so on but people just try to slam the door with them still in! That's bad for the hinges!

What I ended up doing was simple - I just have a bungee cord between the spare wheel carrier and the grill over the lights and it works just fine. There isn't much in the way of stress on the bungee so little danger of it breaking (although I do use the mil-spec ones  ).

That sounds like a good simple solution.
Don't think it would work for me because I've moved the spare onto the roof rack and have no grill over the lights so nothing to hook onto anywhere. :-(

Good thought though..

Any more ?

Thanks

Actually, I borrowed the idea of some who didn't have a spare wheel holder or light covers ... they just pop-rivited two hasps onto the outside (one onto the door, the other near the lights) to do the job. Without a spare wheel the door is a lot lighter and the bungee works better.
