Does HWD contaminate the Water Course it grows in?

In all the time I have been studying this subject I have found no warnings of contamination of drinking (running) water by HWD and, TBH, I have drunk from streams with it growing around.
That said, that does not necessarily mean there is none. I would avoid drinking standing water even after processing. Damaged plants, cuttings, etc. are more likely to contaminate IMO.
