Have sanded and sanded this and its still badly scratched!

This is one of that pair i got some weeks back. Its come a long way but is still far from perfect.

do they have to be blemish less or will worn do??

Im not so sure.

As I said. I have a set...I plan to do them up really nice and sell them on as wedding cups.

What you can do it to file on the surface, to remove all irregularities scratches, lumps & bumps, going from coarse to fine, followed by scrapping with, say, sharp stanley blades, followed by sanding with wet&dry paper, used wet (much less nasty dust) I have done a few of them and they can come up very nicely.
