...that Frosts makes full tang scandis? This is a blank I bought from them. It's the Lapplander 115. You can buy the knife with scales but it has huge brass bolsters and is very handle heavy. Put some nice scales on it sans bolsters and the balance is quite nice.

CD, that looks pretty damn good for a first go round, bolsters and all. Do you recall the specific model of blade?

Cheers guys Hoodoo, the blade is a 95 although I have a 75 waiting for the same treatment as a training knife for the girlfriend 11 y.o nephew. Yes Stew the handle is tulip wood.

The shop where I bought the blade from says that they come razor sharp, this is very true, whilst polishing the boslters I put a nice 1/2" gash in 1 finger!!

TAPE THE BLADE!!!

First rule of knifemaking, that. Wrap it with a bit of loo roll (clean), frap with some masking tape. Seal at the base of the blade.

Protects your fingers from the blade, protects the blade from you - as well as any grit, slips or other finish-knackering mishaps.

Although blood generally cleans off stainless more easily... :-D

I think there might be a hair of a secondary bevel but I will have to take a closer look at it. I need to take this knife out and use it. :-D

ah, well, that's one of those things. some people refer to a sabre grind as a flat grind, a flat grind then becomes a full flat grind.

another example is mors kochanski referring to a stick tang as a full tang as opposed to a stub tang which is a stick tang that doesn't protrude from the pommel. most of the rest of us call a rat tail tang a stick tang regardless, a full tang is really a full tang unless it's a tapered tang which is like a full tang only thinner nearer the pommel.

Heres my current bushcraft blade, I will be posting pics of my first blade made from scratch when it comes back from heat treatment. These were bought blades and I just finished them off.

You mat not find a picture of the Lapplander on it but I know he has more.

The blade is stainless comes very sharp, the back has square edges and works a treat with a fire steel, the edge is deffinatly flat ground, but if you want to polish it with lapping paste and then strop it you will have a knife that a surgeon would be happy with, so bloomin sharp infact I cut the side off of the tip off my finger with it and didnt even know.

My sharpening ability is getting better every time I do it.

I didnt go much on the sheath, good quality leather, but a bit boring, so I spent a couple of hours modifying it and it is now a dead ringer for a woodlore neck sheath
