I think Tea tree oil is what does most of the killing in that, it tends to kill all bacters, even ones resistant to antibiotics. Is not very expensive but one would need some kind of spraying device.
I reckon the powder would be fairly easy to make. Whatever it is, the combination of ingredients really does eliminate smells and doesn't need repeating too often.

I've been using my little tub for quite a while and there's loads left. I couldn't even buy a couple of the ingredients for the cost of one pot so I gave upon the idea of recreating it in the end.

Does anyone know of a genuinely effective way of deodorising boots?

I have a pair of much-loved and much-used Altberg boots which now stink whenever I wear them. I have tried changing the insoles, washing the insoles and spraying the boots' interiors but to no avail. I do not want to get rid of them merely because of their distinctive bouquet as they are very comfortable and have many years left in them so, if anyone knows of or has experience of an effective way of eliminating the boots' distinctive aroma, I'd be hugely appreciative!
Prevention is better than cure. Common problem in the Army. Change your socks more, wear a double layer of thin cotton and wool, change the cotton every day. Make sure your boots are waterproof. Smelly boots boil down to those two things primarily. Its a hygiene or maintenance issue. Usually a combination of both. Lazy = smelly.

I kind of shifted over from boots to trail runners for hiking a few years ago. I think the main problem with shoe smelliness from that is not so much sweat as accidentally walking through patches of coyote pee, skunk juice etc. in the wet grass. Niffs that stuff does. I expect you get the same with foxes.

What Tea tree oils does is that it kills the bacteria on one's skin that break down some fatty acids to smelly ones.

Most smells left over from humans and animal fluids are enzymes, they smell when they breed, you need a bio active cleaner that has enzymes that kill the ones that are breeding.

It’s like milk in a carpet, you can scrub and scrub with cleaner but the smell never goes away as the cleaner doesn’t kill the enzymes.

Not sure what one for boots but we use bio brisk on upholstery at work and it’s great!
