Getting back to your OP yes their has been a increase across the board i have noticed people in the north and south are using them to as the pics they have posted of their trips/meets show. Perhaps people use them in the summer as they would any other tent as they feel they best get the use out of them after paying so much for them as with any kit. i think it deterred when people started to take the **** and made comments that your a sheep if you buy a Lavvu all be it not on this thread. Nobody asked if you liked a tent just if you noticed a increase in the use of a type of tent. maybe they popular as Ray sells one on his site?

Its all down to personal preference really.

Tipi = lovely but dark and you loose a lot of usable space because of the slope of the tent, logic would say take a large dome or tunnel tent but some folk like a tipi so go for it.

Tarp = No way is it a better shelter than a tent unless its an emergency and can't pitch a tent; a tent is more weather proof and warmer but some folk like tarps so go for it.

Hammock = logic says great in a jungle setting but when you look at the weight of a winter setup and factor in under quilts, needing better sleeping bags than needed in a tent etc there is no real sense in using them, but folk do.

Nowt so strange as folk so just use what you fancy and logic and common sense be damned.
