Just been out for an hour or so to try out the new bino's. Well I really think they are excellent!
I have never really had any good bino's so I bought some on a recommendation and although not expensive worked out great. The last few times I have been out at dusk t watch the deer I have been getting quite close but was always running out of light. Well not anymore.
This is a crappy pic with the digi ixus looking through the bino's at my favorite subject.

This was after 8.30 pm so was getting pretty dark...I think will be spending alot more time out late at night!:)

On another note when walking out about 9pm I heard some people (sounded like young lads) walking up the path towards me so ......I hid?!?! Dunno why but afterwards it made me chortle!
Over reaction? strange reaction? Rational response to threat in fading light?
Dunno but damn glad they didn't spot me hiding as I would have really looked like a prat!:o

Nice one Dave.....what brand/spec binos did you buy ? As regards "hiding".....maybe a natural reaction to the possibility of threat....but also watching deer in the circumstances you describe is a very special (almost spiritual) experience and intrusion by outsiders is something we all probably resent...:)

Interesting I have been looking at getting some bins for the same reason. I have been thinking about some surplus ones to keep the costs down. The Steiner M22 or Fuiji M24 proper rugged bins they are.....

I bought a pair of Nikula 10 X 42 water and fog proof bino's of e-bay for £30 from a UK seller. They're a cracking pair of bino's in my opinion from someone used to Carl Zeiss 7 X 50 bino's at work. They're not as heavy as I thought and very comfortable to use. I do recommend them whilst hastening to add I'm not selling any. I was thinking of doing a review of them for the site.

I will do a wee review of them when I get a bit more time. They are Strathspey off ebay who deal from Aviemore. I was recommended them by someone on here (sorry I forget who!) and although not as cheap as £30 under £70 for waterproof fog free yada yada bit heavy but will have to get a tripod mount.
I got the 10 x 50's waterproof which are out of stock at the mo £59 + £6.99 delivery

Perhaps they did spot you and they were terrified to see a strange man with binos lurking in the undergrowth!

All depends on whose point of view you take :D

Enjoy your deerwatching- mesmerizing, aren't they.
