Hello All,

I've just put my Hennessy Safari on fleabay so i'm in the market for another hammock. I've been going back and forth between the above two and just can't decide. The DD is about a foot shorter but it's also a foot wider (6'2" 19 st by the way). They look VERY similar in design, but I like the camo of the Claytor a lot, but then again they're twice as much.AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH. I'm going round in circles, i've been at this for ages.

I've already ordered the snugfit underblanket so it should fit either.

Has anyone tried BOTH and noticed a marked difference in either comfort, quality etc.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP BEFORE I GO CRACKERS it would be most welcome

Ta

I only own a DD but.....

Apart from the length, ( I am only 5'6 so not a big deal ) and the price .....
( plus the extra length means having to buy a bigger tarp!!)
The DD has 5 loops inside ..... Sorry they are almost clones, I can see why you are going round in circles

Is the Camo worth the money????

The DD has been on a few group buys and has been very well thought of and I love mine.

With the DD should there be a problem at least you have a point of contact in the UK

Sorry not a great help

The comfiest hammock I've ever used is the Nomads Land XXL which Magikelly sourced for the group buy a few years ago.

Lurch sells them here if you're interested.

They're good for 300lbs aswell :p

I've recently bought the DD tarp and hammock. I've only had limited chance to check it out but I reckon if the Claytor is narrower by a foot it would make a big difference (never used one so can't comment directly). I'm just over 6' and 18st with fairly broad shoulders and I don't think I'd want to go narrower than the DD. My opinion only, but I'd go for the DD if I were you. The usual disclaimer, no connection to the company, and all that stuff, but they are very good service wise and speed of delivery is fantastic. I ordered my Hammock on the Sunday and it arrived on the Tuesday, my tarp was ordered at13:00 on a Thursday and it arrived in the morning on Friday.

Hi,
I've owned both, along with a Clark (very expensive), one similar to the Nomad XXL, an evilbay one (can't rember which one but there was a lovely Tai lady advertising it :) and an HH exped.

I found the Claytor (Camo) very good, well made and tough. It was a tad tight around the shoulders but plenty of length. I'm 5.10" and 15st though. The shape tends to make it more difficult to move/roll around if your a restless sleeper.
The only thing I did discover was that the waterproof material did encourage some condensation around the head/breathing area and my bag got wet. Now this was in very cold conditions (-7) and I was using an underquilt so that's quite a test for any hammock.

The first DD I had was under par regarding build quality and the net was no good for the UK midge, the second had a good midge proof net and was far better in the build department. ... You might find yourself wishing it was a tad longer, but its good to have that extra width.
The second one got prised from my fingers by my Nephew!

I'm currently using a Clark, length is fine but it's narrow, like lying in a banana skin!
If your a big bloke, you might be cursing it by the morning!
Great for really cold conditions cus you can close it in with storm shields that really warm it up! ....... If they made them wider I'd be 100% happy. .. Very versatile hammock.

The HH you know about, if they did that in top entry, removable net I would rate them perfect!, for me anyhow. Most comfy IMO.

The Namod type, very comfy, plenty room but I would only use in warm conditions. Nice and light, no fuss design.

I've just ordered a new DD travel. ...... Looking forward to it's arrival. I'm hoping there won't be to much condensation in cold weather with it's new waterproof material design.

To sum up ... Clark great but narrow
HH you know about.
Claytor very good but shape does squeese you a tad and poss condense issues.
Nomad, roomy, comfy but not for me I like double skinned.
DD great now the build/net issues have been adressed but possibly too short for a long fellow.

I reckon, especially for the price, the DD takes a bit of beating. I'll pop in with my thoughts on the new one when it arrives.

Just like stiks I owned both Claytor Jungle and the new dd I am 6 2" and 60"chest i got the Claytor for its extra length and its better build and weight limit at the end of the day there is about 5"extra width in the dd but its not long enough for me Claytor Jungle in dark green is what I went for and I also got an extra tarp 4.5mx4.5m for the good Scottish rain we get

hope this helps bigwolfy

Thanks for all the replies - i'm going for the Claytor.

I thought it was a foot narrower but after looking at it properly it's only 6" narrower.

From what i've read there seems to be a lot of people having quality issues with the DD and none with the Claytor and the extra length appeals to me.

I may get a DD a bit later just to see what they're like, after all they're only 42 quid.

Thanks again for the input.

I have been using a DD for over a year and a half now and had no problems with build quality. Most of my friends have bought one to and are very happy with them.

I think that in the beginning there might have been some problems with the build quality. but there well sorted now.

BTW my DD is from 2007 and my friends bought the new bivi model.
