Our Story
We have been passionate about knives for a long time and at the beginning of 2019 we decided to take the plunge and launch our own online shop. A few weeks later, couteau-damas.com, our french website was born (We are from Belgium

)!

Our long-term objective is to be able to offer you a wide range of damascus steel knives created by independent craftsmen, major brands and our own models.

Particularly fans of Asian culture and after long research, we decided to partner with a small workshop located in Yangjiang (the city of knives) to create our first forged models before moving to damascus steel.

Our knives quickly became popular in Belgium and France and we started getting messages from people living in Canada and other countries to buy our products. So we decided to create this brand new website to ship our most popular knives worldwide!

Now here we are with this brand new website We then contacted a nearby manufacturer of stainless steel damask kitchen knives so that we could also offer this type of knife.

Our objectives for the future:

  • Create/extend our collection of knives made out of damascus carbon steel.
  • Partner with local craftsmen (cutlers, leather craftsmen,…) in order to promote their work, enlarge our catalog and propose unique or even custom unique models. By the way, don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to collaborate.
  • Import Japanese knives.
  • Open our own workshop in Belgium

  • About us
We have been passionate about knives for a long time… After the success of our French website (we are from Belgium) and a few requests, we decided to open an international store. So here we are…

As I suspected, an importer of Chinese made stuff.
May be decent, might not.

It matters not if they are based in Belgium, UK or Moldova. Chinese made.

I do not understand the sentence where they say they import knives from Japan?

They do, but I wonder if they mean the same as an American company selling Scottish Dirks or Nepalese Kukris, in that they're referring to the blade profile. They may import them just not from Japan.

You mean a play with words?
None of the shapes are traditional Japanese shapes.

I bought a couple of Chinese made, (but made for a well known Japanese knife company) Kiritsuke knives I made new fancy handles on.
Presents for my friends. Kept one and used. POS steel. Soft, edge rolled.

You get what you pay for.
They write worldwide shipping is included. If you know how much shipping cost ( I buy lots internationally so I have an idea) you realize they do not pay many Euros per knife.
Sorry if I sound negative, but I am yet to try a Chinese product where the quality is superior.

Well, i've never come across them (but they are a new company) so can't say as to quality. All i can say is that the forging style (hammer marks, forms and crossection), handle style and materials don't say japanese made to me, nor do they suggest Indian (which is where most imported knives especially damascus ones come from). The forging and general morphology might be chinese, but to me feels more Russian or eastern block. The prices would fit there too. That doesn't mean they are rubbish, or great for that matter

Pay your money and take your chances. I have seen their facebook adds a lot recently and that would discourage me

I think they are selling cheap to finance their future aims, as stated below,, and if understood correctly they don't do any of the listed aims as of yet.

Which is BS. Written to look good. Will never happen, as the profit margin is quite small if you want to be competive.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, stops them from contacting a couple of Japanese knife smiths and starting to import and resell. Today.
Easy.

I wanted to buy two large sets of handcrafted kitchen knifes, made by a small family company, made from high quality carbon steel.
Took me maybe two weeks of internet search to find one.
Website in decent English. Emails written in fully understandable School English.
Superb service. Knifes?
A dream.
