I saw a thing about sedum roofing but it looked very expensive. I think I'm going to have to experiment a bit; my thought is that, as long as the structure is strong enough, if I don't get it right first time I'll just have to experiment.
Think of it as an elevated garden with a shed sheltering underneath it!

Sedums are easily available quite cheaply. If you don't mind buying small and waiting for them to spread out a bit, they're sold among the 99p rock garden and alpine plants.
If you get your roof sorted out and want some, I have four varieties and I'll more than happily send you offshoots. Bound to be others who'd do so too
