A bent gouge will be just fine for spoons but maybe a little on the light side for mugs and bowls. I would go with the crooked knife.

I would advise a hook knife for spoons, but not the cheap frost ones the angles are wrong and they take a lot of grinding to get them any where near sweet (unlike the straight frost knives which are ace). Good hooks generaly cost about £30, svante djarve is OK as are Ben Orfords and hans Karlsons the best are Bo Helgesse. These will do for small bowls but for big bowls you want adzes and gouges.
