Yep, that is the natural color of the wood. Padouk is a wonderful material, has nice color, doesn't splinter at all, and it has a rather sweet smell, especially during sanding
One of those steels are used for making sawblades for wood, the other is used for making sawblades for metal, so no, the blade isn't just for show, it's a user!
