Yep, that is the natural color of the wood. Padouk is a wonderful material, has nice color, doesn't splinter at all, and it has a rather sweet smell, especially during sanding ;)
One of those steels are used for making sawblades for wood, the other is used for making sawblades for metal, so no, the blade isn't just for show, it's a user!
